Our little book lover

As a parent, you know that when things get too quiet, it's time to go investigating. Well, usually in our house, it just means that Thad has gone into his room or curled up on the couch with a few books.

Thea discovers her toes

This month Thea discovered her toes, and she enjoys chewing on them on the changing table. I guess her diapers are so bulky that they don't reach her mouth when she has them on! She was so cute chewing on her toes, but after she noticed I had the camera out, she stopped playing with her feet, and just smiled and smiled.

bonfire ready!

Our friends invited us over for an evening bonfire in their yard last weekend. It was a little bit chilly, so I thought it was a great opportunity for Thea to wear her supper warm pink bear suit...she looked so cozy in it, and stayed nice and warm at her first bonfire! Thad also got to wear his Green Bay Packers fleece.

Thad helps with the dishes

Thad is discovering how much fun it is to be a little helper. He loves to get the broom out and help me sweep. Last week I put some water and dish soap in the basin that we use for washing the dishes and he had some great fun "wash dishes"  and putting them in the drying rack while I was working on supper.

The Elijah Tube

When we first started brushing Thad’s teeth over a year ago, we started with this tube of toothpaste. And this tiny little tube lasted, and lasted, and lasted. In April we started calling it the Elijah tube (after the story about Elijah and the widow in Zarephath in 1 Kings 17) because, although we thought it was almost gone, it never would be empty! Well, it finally finished this month—I wish we had thought to take notice of the date we opened it!!

Hiding

Thad has truly discovered hiding now. Here’s where we found him last week—stuffed into his clothes hamper!

Thea jumps!

Thea is getting really stable at sitting, so we’re on to the next thing ~ jumping! I’ve put her in the johnny-jump-up a few times and she really seems to enjoy it. I have to make sure I do it when Thad is involved in other things, though, as he thinks it is a swing and that he ought to push her in it—which she doesn’t appreciate very much.

Thad's cockpit

A couple of weeks ago, Thad sat astride his small chair, backwards, making noises and telling that me he was flying! So, I thought that maybe I could give him a little more fodder for his imagination. I found an old box that we were throwing away, and cut it up the right size to fit over the back of his chair. I found some brads in our office drawer and dug up some CDs that we don’t use anymore, cut a few egg circles off an empty carton, and found a spice lid that I wasn’t using. I was wondering what I could use for switches, and I thought to tape some binder clips backwards, so that the flip part can have maximum flip! I bent an old wire hangar and taped around it a bit to make the yoke for steering. Then I stuck them all on to the box, colored on them with a pen a little bit, and voila ~ some imagination fodder!

Look at his little cheeks puffing out - making all the proper airplane noises!

more fun with Thea's hair

Thea has such fun curls on the top! It's just irresistable to comb them in some funny way after a bath!

eatin' carrots

Well, we’ve finally gotten into it and pureed some vegetables for Thea to eat. She enjoys eating while we are eating and sometimes really goes after the spoon! She always eyes the cookies when we break them out for dessert—how does she know already that that’s the good stuff??

would you like some grass on your hamburger?

A few weeks ago, as we were eating our hamburgers, Thad told us that he would like some “grass on” his hamburger. We then noticed that he was pointing to the lettuce that we had put on the edge of his plate rather than on his burger, thinking that he’d be more likely to eat it that way. Guess we were wrong—grass is better ON the burger!

at the playground

There is a community playground about a 7 minute walk from out house. We have gone there a few times, partly for the walk, and partly because Thad loves the swing that is there. Thea is learning to enjoy it too! We’ll have to move Thad up to the big-boy swing soon so that we don’t have to take turns!
